Cats & Dogs

Except for the nine years I spent in New York (living in the college dorms and then renting apartments after graduation), I have always had a pet. Here are a few of my favorite "pet" shots.

Play time

One of my favorite things to watch is children playing. It is amazing to see their little minds and imaginations at work, to watch them as they discover the world. Here are a few of my favorite shots of my girl playing.

And, inevitably, after a long day of play, a girl just needs a little rest.

Black, white, and shades of gray...

Some photos just beg to be black and white.  Take away the colors, and what you're left with is a crisp, clean sort of beauty that often speaks in a much more simple and direct way. Here are a few photos, in color as they were originally captured, and converted to black and white. Let me know what you think.

This next one is so dark originally, I feel like the black and white and a few lighting adjustments really helped.

Getting started...

So it's been so long since I took my photography seriously, that I desperately need to get started building up the portfolio again. Here are a few of my first fully-edited and retouched digital photos taken with my Pentax K-7. I've come a long way from my old Pentax K-1000 and developing photos in the dark room, but I think I'm getting the hang of it.

Of course, my daughter makes one of the best subjects for me to practice on. She is not yet mobile enough to run away from the camera, and she's normally such an easygoing baby, that it doesn't take much for me to coax out a smile or two for the camera. Thank you Cadence, for cooperating. Someday when your Momma gets good enough to be booking clients, she will have you to thank!

About me...

Everyone has a story.

I fell in love with writing the moment I first put a pencil to a piece of paper and began forming words. I always saw the world around me through a writer’s eyes—each person a character with a unique story just waiting to be told. My love of photography was a natural progression, when I discovered that I could capture pieces of someone’s story on film, freezing the memories in time.

My style is natural, easy-going, and candid. My goal is to capture life as it happens, one moment at a time. I don’t work with a lot of props or unnatural poses. Instead, I want my photographs to reflect the memories as they really happen. I capture families in their homes and neighborhoods, children in their natural environments, pets as they perform their daily routines, and people as they are—because these are the little moments that we will long to remember later.

If you like the images you see here, then I may be the photographer for you.

Let me help tell your story.
